One of the newest specifications that has been named OCP-ACCEPTED™ is the CG-OpenRack-19 specification. CG-OpenRack-19 is a scalable carrier-grade rack level system that integrates high performance compute, storage and networking in a standard rack. In this workshop, communications service providers and vendors that created the specification and are dedicated to bringing OCP Open Rack principles to the telco data center will address:
- The telecom industry’s transformation from the traditional Central Office to virtualized data centers and how this transition is driving demand for open hardware solutions.

Open Rack has proved to be a powerful platform for cost-effective data center scale-out. Focus on vanity-free technology, coupled with an open source hardware model has changed the landscape for rack scale computing infrastructure. However, next-generation server/networking architectures, combined with increasing demand for data center operational and capital efficiencies, put extreme pressure on continued improvement of the rack power subsystem. This talk will examine rack level power delivery with a focus on areas for possible improvement in: energy efficiency, reduction of stranded power, reduction of rack footprint, vendor interoperability, energy storage, and improved total cost of ownership. As a global leader in power solutions, Artesyn seeks to kick off this discussion in order to identify other interested parties and prioritize possible IP submissions.
Optimized support for GPU and media processing workloads enables carriers to enhance their networks with improved video streaming and services that use video, such as digital advertising and augmented reality. Carriers also benefit from dramatically increased performance density and the ability to deploy new applications such as advanced analytics.
ASTRI Demonstrates C-RAN Virtual Cell Solution on Artesyn MaxCore Platform at MWC17: the Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute is demonstrating live video streaming and real-time data traffic on a high density wireless network deployed with ASTRI's C-RAN virtual cells running on a MaxCore™ platform, showcased in the Sunnada booth (5G70). The design also supports flexible processor configuration, which could enable other applications such as Mobile or Multi-Access Edge Computing (MEC).
Virtual hosted equipment or virtual customer premise equipment (vCPE) can resolve many of the issues associated with traditional, fixed-function appliances. ‘Positive Disruption’ occurs when network edge platforms replace dedicated appliances and set-top boxes with virtual hosted equipment. Clavister’s virtual security implementation is one of many offerings that can be provided by communications service providers (CSPs) and the MaxCore platform is the ideal platform for virtualized applications.
