Innovation at Artesyn

Artesyn’s embedded power products continue to improve in efficiency year over year, reducing energy loss during the power conversion process and decreasing energy consumption costs.

Artesyn is always driving operational advancements to improve many metrics throughout our organization. Recently, Artesyn was able to decrease its component count 41% on an embedded power product line, leading to a 50% reduction in the need for manual assembly operators, reducing the total carbon footprint of the production site, including landfill waste and water usage.

Carbon Reporting & Energy Consumption

In 2015, Artesyn conducted its first Carbon Disclosure Project (“CDP”) report. This report aims to capture Artesyn’s Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions (GHG). In order to accomplish this, Artesyn tracks many metrics related to energy consumption as well as the source of that energy, whether it be from water, nuclear power, wind energy, carbon, solar energy or otherwise. This report also helps our customers and other upstream and downstream partners analyze their own respective carbon footprints. We will be preparing this report annually.

Paperwork Reduction

Artesyn is encouraging its customers to move to “paperless” documentation. Instead of shipping physical product manuals, safety notes, software licenses, quick start guides, and other corollary information, we offer this documentation in electronic format. This reduces our carbon footprint, not only in the form of fewer trees needed to create paper documentation, but also in logistics costs as the weight to ship these products is reduced. Equipment & Infrastructure

Every year Artesyn invests in new, more efficient infrastructure and production equipment that either reduces energy consumption through direct grid energy use or reduces manpower. From replacing standard lightbulbs with LEDs, to upgrading and improving our HVAC systems, to investing in equipment and tooling that reduces the need for manual laborers, improvements to our business also improve our carbon footprint for Artesyn and our customers.

Waste Reduction & Water Use

Artesyn tracks many metrics related to waste from the amount of waste sent to landfills to the amount of material recycled, reused or repurposed with the goal of reducing all waste streams and increasing the percentage of our waste that is either recycled or reused. Even food waste from our canteens is sold to feed livestock rather than be sent to landfills. Artesyn’s production methods are highly efficient, requiring only small amounts of water usage.

Environmental Goal Setting

Each year Artesyn sets a goal for its environmental improvement efforts. For 2015, Artesyn set 2% as our company-wide environmental improvement goal. In assessing whether this goal has been achieved, Artesyn examines many environmental aspects of its business, from compliance with all pertinent environmental regulations, to reduction of energy consumption, to improvement of recycling and other environmental programs.
